A 2009 Message from Sharran Selig-Bennet, CJA President

Dear CJA Member:

I am very happy to announce some exciting news regarding the future of the Connecticut Jewelers Association.

As you know, this past year our former Executive Director Ed Isenberg retired after serving the Jewelry industry for forty seven years. Ed was a true professional and led the Association with great honor and distinction. The CJA was always counted among the very top trade associations in CT and that was due in very large part to Ed's professionalism. We wish Ed and his family all the best in his new job retirement!

With Ed's retirement, the Board of Directors of CJA was faced with a decision as to what direction we should go next. We looked at a variety of options, all with an eye toward what would be best for our members in both the short term and long term.

Today, I am pleased to announce we have joined forces with the Connecticut Retail Merchants Association (CRMA). The arrangement with CRMA, which begins immediately, offers our members a great value. In the short term, they are an established trade group with a familiarity with our issues and a solid reputation at the State Capitol. They have the experience and knowledge to pick up where Ed has left off. In addition for the long term they offer the ability to help us grow the CJA so that we can continue to serve members like you.

There are also immediate benefits to CJA members with our alliance with the CRMA.

They include:
Representation at the State Capitol
Managing the CJA annual membership meeting and election of officers
All members of the CJA will automatically become members of the CRMA and will be eligible for all the CRMA members service offers (www.crmaonline.com)
The CRMA will handle all the administrative functions for the CJA including updating the CJA website, publishing an email newsletter and answering any member inquiries.

We are extremely excited about this new arrangement. The CRMA is strong organization and is a good fit for us. We will continue to keep the CJA name and our affiliation with the Jewelers of America.

In coming weeks you may be hearing from Tim Phelan, the President of the CRMA, about issues that are before the General Assembly or about the money saving programs that are being offered to members.

I hope you will agree with me that this new arrangement will be of great benefit to members of CJA. I encourage all of our members to contact Tim or myself if you have any questions about this. Also, I would be happy to review with you the process that the Board went through before making this important decision.

Sincerely,

Sharran Selig Bennett
President
Connecticut Jewelers Association
